David progressed through the youth ranks at the highly-thought of Twyford Spartans, and his heritage always pointed towards a career with Tiverton Town. His father captained the club at Wembley in 1993; his grandfather managed the team in the 70s, and the family name is synonymous with the trials and tribulations around Ladysmead. It was in February 2001 that David fist made an appearance for Tivvy, and in those days he was used in a number of positions but never let the side down. That first spell at Ladysmead came to and end in January 2005 with the exception of two substitute appearances the following season, and David went off to play in the Western League for Bideford before switching to Willand Rovers. As part of the major squad reshuffle Steele was brought back to Ladysmead in July 2010 and formed part of the new-look midfield under Chris Vinnicombe, and his finest moment since returning to the club was the crucial goal he scored at Taunton last season, a goal that secured victory over Tivvy’s fierce rivals. David’s appearance from the bench against Didcot in October 2012 was his 250th for Tiverton, and that alone is of massive credit to his own loyalty and ability. He rejoined Willand Rovers in the Spring of 2013 as the Tiverton squad was rejuvinated following the appointment of Jamie Ward as manager. |
