As far as was humanly possibly Tiverton fielded their strongest team, but in a game that failed to ever get going it came down to once moment of inspiration to see the Yellows through to the semi-final of the Devon Cup. Tivvy edged the first half of the first half and went close through Tom Gardner and David Steele, but as half-time approached Ivybridge began to look dangerous on the counter and a brace of chances each for Joe Truelove and Dennis Mason were wasted, one of Mason’s a one-on-one which should have been buried.

After make a couple of changes and handing debuts to Nathan Haskins and Jo Packer-Bryne Tivvy finally got the all-important goal as Russell Jee’s centre pinged and ponged around a bit before Adam Mortimer lifted a delightful lob over former Tiverton goalkeeper Kenny Griffiths for the only score of the match. Michael Nardiello came within a whisker of doubling the lead with a chance that was reminiscent of Gazza’s Euro 96 goal against Scotland, only this time the final shot flew just over the bar.Ivybridge again looked dangerous on the counter but couldn’t finish so Tivvy host Exeter City in the last four.
