Paul Edwards (gk) | |
26/02/1967 | |
Originally an outfield player in his youth days with Taunton Town, Eddie switched to goalkeeper and entered the conciousness of Western League afficianodos during an excellent spell at Bideford. He was brought to Tiverton in 1996 and went on to establish himself as the finest goalkeeper in the league as Tivvy cemented their place amongst the elite of Westcountry football, and Edwards was instrumental in helping the team to successive FA Vase wins in 1998 and 1999, as well as promotion to the Southern League. Paul played 340 times for the Yellows but niggling injuries eventually saw him step down from the squad. He will be best remembered for his endearing character and sense of fun - ahead of his first Wembley appearance he got a tatoo of the famous Wembley logo on his bottom, and the following year stepped out for the FA Vase final with his hair dyed bright yellow before delivering a man-of-the-match performance as Tivvy beat Bedlington Terrires. |
