Tiverton Town cruised into the Dr Martens League Western Division´s second automatic promotion spot for the first time this season with a 7-2 mauling of Racing Club Warwick last night. A sixth successive victory at Sutton Coldfield tomorrow night will now guarantee the club a place among the Premier Division big guns. Martyn Rogers said of his buoyant players: "Thursday can´t come quick enough for them." Club record marksman Phil Everett added another three to his tally as Tivvy ran riot. Phil climbed above Warwick´s goalkeeper‚ Andy Smith before lashing home the loose ball just 10 minutes into the game. Nicky Marker‚ who passed a late fitness test on a sore thigh‚ then claimed his sixth goal in five games with a trademark header from a Paul Chenoweth free kick. Paul Chenoweth got in on the act on 42 minutes by sweeping the ball home following excellent work by Steve Ovens before Everett nodded his second from another Pete Conning free kick. Although Steve Winter limped out of the action with a thigh strain‚ replacement Dave Toomey profited from an Everett free kick to head home at the far post. Warwick struck back twice in a minute to salvage a slither of pride before an own goal put Tivvy back into the comfort zone. And after Phil Everett pounced during a late goalmouth scramble to complete his treble‚ a bumper midweek crowd of almost 900 treated Tiivy to a rousing send-off . "We were superb in the first half‚ it was one of the best 45 minutes we´ve had for a while‚" said Martyn Rogers. "They got a standing ovation after the game and it was fully deserved. "We´ve had three home games on the trot and we´re now travelling to Sutton Coldfield — financially it´s been hard on the supporters‚ but they have been superb."
