The unofficial archives of Tiverton Town Football Club
Mark Ovendale | |
22/11/1973 | |
One of Tiverton's finest goalkeepers and dubbed 'Ovengloves' by the supporters, Mark moved to Ladysmead in 2004 following his release from York City. He had previously established himself as a regular starter at both AFC Bournemouth and Luton Town, and was the undisputed number one during his two-year stay at Tiverton. Initially he had turned out for Northampton Town and then moved to Barry Town where he helped them win the Welsh Cup by scoring the winning penalty in the shootout. His later career was blighted with injury problems, and he was used sparingly at Newport County, and then moved to Wimborne Town in a coaching capacity having been forced to retire from playing in 2007. After a lengthy illness Mark passed away in August 2011. |
